TeachTrauma: Increasing Knowledge about Trauma and Dissociation 

TeachTrauma is an educational website operated out of Towson University. Its purpose is to share research-based knowledge on the topic of trauma with members of the community, particularly those involved in education and training. We aim to increase knowledge about the prevalence, impact, and treatment of trauma in a format that is readily understood and utilized by educators and students, as well as the broader community.

Bethany L. Brand, Ph.D.

Bethany L. Brand, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist practicing in Towson, Maryland. Regarded as an expert in trauma, she specializes in the assessment and treatment of trauma related disorders including posttraumatic stress disorder and dissociative disorders. Dr. Brand is the Martha A. Mitten Professor of Psychology at Towson University and maintains an independent practice in clinical psychology. Additionally, she serves as an expert witness in criminal, civil, disability, and employment matters. Dr. Brand conducts research on the assessment and treatment of trauma disorders, including the assessment of feigned dissociative disorders. She has presented research papers and clinical trainings worldwide. She is the creator of TeachTrauma.

Shaina A. Kumar, Ph.D.

Shaina A. Kumar, Ph.D., is a T32 Postdoctoral Research Fellow affiliated with the Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine and VA Boston National Center for PTSD. She seeks to understand how people flourish amidst hardship. To that end, her program of research focuses on identifying factors that promote resilience during and in the aftermath of adversity. Relatedly, she aims to uncover key psychological strengths that foster a sense of wellbeing among trauma survivors. Shaina is the website administrator for TeachTrauma.
