TeachTrauma is an educational website operated out of Towson University. Its purpose is to share research-based knowledge on the topic of trauma with members of the community, particularly those involved in education and training. We aim to increase knowledge about the prevalence, impact, and treatment of trauma in a format that is readily understood and utilized by educators and students, as well as the broader community.

Bethany L. Brand, Ph.D.
Bethany L. Brand, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist practicing in Towson, Maryland. Regarded as an expert in trauma, she specializes in the assessment and treatment of trauma related disorders including posttraumatic stress disorder and dissociative disorders. Dr. Brand is the Martha A. Mitten Professor of Psychology at Towson University and maintains an independent practice in clinical psychology. Additionally, she serves as an expert witness in criminal, civil, disability, and employment matters. Dr. Brand conducts research on the assessment and treatment of trauma disorders, including the assessment of feigned dissociative disorders. She has presented research papers and clinical trainings worldwide. She is the creator of TeachTrauma.
Shaina A. Kumar, M.A.
Shaina A. Kumar, M.A., is a recent graduate of the clinical psychology master’s program at Towson University. Shaina served as the Lab Coordinator of Dr. Bethany Brand’s Trauma Lab where she assisted with tasks for the Treatment of Patients with Dissociative Disorders (TOP DD) study. Shaina is the Co-Principal Investigator for an ongoing project that aims to measure the impact of trauma training in mental health professionals and raise awareness of the effects of trauma. Shaina’s research has primarily focused on the intersections among posttraumatic stress and dissociative symptoms, and quality of life in trauma survivors. She is the research assistant and website administrator for TeachTrauma.
